Murphy's Law of Vacations

A few weeks ago, Brad and I left for Aruba. We try and take at least one vacation every year. With it being our 5 year anniversary, we knew tropical was the way to go. Mind you, we have been to the Bahamas, Grand Caymans, Las Vegas and California many times. We have been fortunate enough that we have never had anything go wrong on our vacations. Well, we thought our luggage was lost when we went to the Bahamas, but it turns out we just didn't recongnize ours (colored yarn is your friend!)

We weren't as fortunate this time as we have been in the past. We left on Saturday from STL to Miami and then left on Sunday morning from Miami to Aruba. Here's a sample of what happened:

  • Our clock in the Miami hotel was an hour off.
  • Brad discovers he has a food allergy (though it took us several days to figure this out and Benadryl in Aruba was $16 for a regular pack.)
  • Brad got stung by a jellyfish.
  • I was hit by Fire Coral.
  • I got sun poisoning on my bottom lip.
  • Our flight from Aruba to Miami was leaving at 8am, was told we had to be there 3 hours early. Yes, 3 hours to stand outside b/c American Airlines and customs does not open at the same time, not b/c of the process of getting back to the states.
  • My digital camera was stolen out of my luggage. It happened either in STL or Miami. I had close to 300 pictures on it. Lesson learned: download pictures onto the computer more often.

All this happened and yet every time someone asked us how the trip was, we still said it was WONDERFUL. I guess it is all on your perspective.

Your vacation sounds crazy! I'm glad you still say it was 'wonderful' though. Sometimes it's the random things that happen along the way that really make a trip memorable.

I love you and look forward to seeing the pics from this crazy adventure very soon! :)
